One one occasion she survived a landslide which buried her dog in 1833, which she wrote 'quite upset her'.Īmong her notable finds included the the first complete Plesiosaurus, another marine dinosaur, in 1823, and the first British find of the pterosaur in 1828, called a flying dragon when it was displayed at the British Museum.īy 1826 she had made enough money to fund her own shop, called Anning's Fossil Depot, and the business eventually became famous enough to attract royalty, such as King Frederick Augustus II of Saxony, who bought an ichthyosaur skeleton in 1844.īut she remained an outsider in the scientific community due to her gender and was not even allowed to attend meetings of the Geological Society of London as a guest, let alone become a member. The Hollywood star is shooting part of her new movie called Ammonite in Charing, just outside of Ashford. The first pictures have emerged of crews filming a period drama in Kent starring Kate Winslet.
